MAC MATTE LIPSTICK COLLECTION: THE BRIGHTS

mac lipstick for dark skin

I am a HUGE lipstick girl.  I love all types of lipstick, from matte to satins, and I have tried a very wide range of them from different brands…but I always come back to MAC.  I love the quality and consistency, and I have to admit, there is something oddly satisfying about adding to my collection of sleek, bullet shaped lipstick tubes.

dark skin lipstick swatches

Even from before I started my channel, I loved watching dark I have done a lipstick swatch video from the MAC Matte Collection, with more fall/winter shades, and so I wanted to come on and do a video on the more colorful shades in this collection.  If you are into matte lips, but don’t like liquid lipsticks then I highly recommend these!  There are gorgeous, pigmented, and wear very comfortably for the most part.  Even the driest of them, the Retro Mattes, are comfortably wearable over a good base.  The normal mattes are very creamy, while also longwearing, and I recommend them for on the go wear.  I have also included some dark skin lipstick  lip liner suggestions for those of us who need to tone the brightness down! Enjoy 🙂

L’OREAL AMBER RUSH MAKEUP LOOK

makeup tutorial for black women

I filmed a nude makeup look using one of my favorite drugstore eyeshadow products, L’OREAL Amber Rush.  I picked the shadow out and fell in love with it immediately, and the entire look sort of developed around this shade! I love the formula, it is so buttery and pigmented, and it is a gorgeous wearable neutral shimmer for a wide range of skin tones.  I can honestly say I have never seen Amber Rush look bad on anyone!

HIGHLIGHTER FOR DARK SKIN: JACLYN HILL CHAMPAGNE POP COLLECTION

HIGHLIGHTER FOR DARK SKIN

I remember when I was starting out in makeup, I noticed that celebrities often had a certain glow.  I later came to realize that this glow was the result of highlighter, and then decided that I needed to find a way to make highlighting a part of my makeup routine! My highlighter collection has grown exponentially since then, as I continue the search to find the perfect highlighter for dark skin, and many of my favorites are Becca Cosmetics products.  I am a huge fan of Becca Cosmetics highlighters.  They are buttery, pigmented, and smooth and they are so beautiful on a wide range of skin tones.

Nigerian Traditional Wedding Makeup Tutorial

Welcome to my international series! I love weddings and so I decided to do a series dedicated to various makeup looks from traditional weddings all over the world.  I love going to events where I know I will be able to soak up a different culture, and eat amazing food.  I also always look forward to seeing the bride’s makeup and attire.

Maha’s Eyes: Nigerian Traditional Wedding Makeup

A Nigerian traditional wedding is usually a weekend long occasion consisting of the traditional wedding on the first day, and an English wedding on the next.  My favorite part of the wedding celebration has to be the traditional wedding! They are always so vibrant and exciting!

The traditional wedding is a cultural practice in which the bride is presented and picks her groom out of a crowd.  She dances around the room while he “hides” and once she find him, she kneels before him and presents him with a cup of palm wine.  He sips, then she sips, then he finishes the cup and puts some money inside of it for her people back home.

These weddings vary by tribe and region of origin, and it is always so exciting to watch.  I could go on and on about the intricacies of this ceremony, but I will save that for later posts! In the meantime, lets get to the tutorial.  I decided to use reds because as you will see from the photos of other Nigerian traditional wedding ceremonies, red is a really important color in these ceremonies.  The ceremonial beads are red, and even if brides opt to wear other colors they almost always use the red beads as accessories, as do the grooms and bridal party.
