How to Wash Makeup Brushes so they’re good as new!

Hey guys!

So I thought I would do super quick post about how I clean my makeup brushes! I love for my brushes to be good as new after every wash, and it took me a while to find the perfect technique so I figured others could benefit from a post like this one!

basis bar soap

I use a sensitive skin soap bar, fragrance free of course, lukewarm water and a plastic bowl.  This method is quick and easy and only requires the bar soap and the water!

Here’s the step by step:

First, dip the brush into the bowl of lukewarm water.

Then, using the bar of soap in a similar way you would use the palm of your hand, move the brush around on the soap.

Add more water when you experience heightened friction.  When the foam runs white, your brushes are clean!

Rinse thoroughly, shape, and lay down to dry.

Make sure you don’t sit them up in the cups until they excess water has completely drained or you could risk damaging the glue that holds your brushes together.

Every other week or so, a light oil added to this routine will condition and soften your brushes for smooth and scratch free application every time!  I am very particular about the brushes I use for eye and liquid products so I tend to wash those at least once a week.

Summer Skin Care Routine: Get the Glow without the Grease!

summer skin routine

My skin care routine was recently featured on the Popsugar website! I was so happy to be featured on the site again, after my purple lipstick feature.  This skin care regimen has really helped to cut down the grease while helping my skin retain moisture, and reverse damage.  I found that this skin care routine helped make my skin more radiant, moisturize around my eyes, and also make my skin more even!  Exfoliating everyday has really made a huge difference for me, and has drastically helped lighten any scarring or discoloration I had from breakouts.  I included my skin profile below so that you can see how to adapt this look for your own skin care needs!

Skin Profile

Oily/Combination

I find that my skin gets even oilier in the summer, but I am oily combination all year round.  My oily area is in the center of my face—especially my nose—and I find that I need to blot and powder even the most mattifying foundations.  My nose gets really oily throughout the day, but the other areas far tolerably well.  To combat the grease,  I rely on cleansers that deep clean without overdrying and moisturizers that replenish and lock in moisture in my skin care routine.  FUN FACT: Oily skin can actually result from a lack of moisture.

My Clarisonic cleanser always does the trick!

Complexion

As you can probably tell from photos I am darker skinned! I like to exfoliate daily, because this keeps my skin looking as fresh and as radiant as possible.  I love the results I have seen from regular exfoliation—acne scars and dark spots vanish more more quickly, and I have noticed that it gives me a golden glow that shines from beneath my skin’s surface!  For these reasons, exfoliation is at the center of my skin care routine.

To exfoliate, I use my Clarisonic.  It works like a charm! I use the sensitive skin brush head for a gentle touch, especially because I am someone who exfoliates everyday.

Sensitivity

I find that my skin is both sensitive and strong.  As oily as my skin gets, I never had acne and I almost never breakout—not even during my cycle.  That being said my skin needs to breathe in order to look and feel its best!  That means that I skip foundation whenever I am not filming or taking photos, and I try to make sure that my pores are never clogged.  In this way, my skin care routine is more preventative than defensive.

To protect and moisturize the sensitive skin around my eyes, I use the AHAVA Extreme Firming Eye Cream! I find that this really helps to put moisture back in the area after removing my eye makeup.

Texture

Thankfully, my skin is pretty smooth.  I get some irritation when I try a new product that is either too harsh or just offensive to my skin, but other than that I am pretty pleased with the texture of my skin.  Whenever I see breakouts, or a rash I like to do a mask to deep clean and purge!

I have been loving my Purifying Mud Mask, and I show you how I use it in my video!

See my Summer Skin Care Routine in action!

I know it’s a lot, and in a perfect world, I would be able to fit this all in every night…unfortunately that isn’t the case, but on the nights that I am able to pamper myself I really love going through the motions of my night time skin care routine.  The results are amazing! Beyonce Mine Music Video

Gorgeous blues and teals make this a show stopping look for any season!

Please tell me you got the Beyonce album! At least saw some previews of the video? Photos?! Well if you are a makeup lover like I am, this album is definitely work checking out for some MAJOR inspiration.  There are tons of photos on google of looks from the album, and I have to say that the makeup is absolutely exquisite.  Beyonce is one of those artists who I feel takes the natural side of glam more often than not, but this time around she really does it up with some very edgy looks, taking more makeup risks in a single album than many will take in well…a lifetime.  She does everything from a barenaked face to this blue teal look.  From a fierce cateye fit for the runways, to a high glam 20s inspired gunmetal smokey eye paired with a glossy oxblood lip.  Needless to say I was in makeup inspo paradise watching the music videos from the Beyonce album.

Beyonce “Mine” Music Video Look

Here is a still from the video that inspired my tutorial.  I was talking to my baby sis, she’s actually a teenager aha, and she was telling me that I should try to do tutorials with products that are more accessible.  So here it is! Thanks baby sis! I really wanted this look to be as easy to recreate as possible, so I searched and searched and found the perfect palette and I found it: The Maybelline “Sapphire Siren” palette.  It is sold in nearly any and every drugstore, and it is super affordable.  It is even cheaper if you get it from Walmart!  I hope you all enjoy this look, and feel free to comment down below with an other looks you would like to see from the Beyonce album.  I plan to do a lot more, so be sure to stay updated!

I have received some questions about how to alter this look for different skintones.  Using lighter shades works well to adapt the look, or using warmer colors could help as well.  I plan to do a similar look that will be more universal, so be sure to stay tuned for that!
