Review of Revlon Lip Butters

Revlon Lip Butters

From left to right: Lollipop, Brown Sugar, and Sugar Plum

Look at them. Justtt look at ’em! Revlon Lip Butters come in a number of shades, many of which can be flattering on a wide variety of skin tones.  Missing form the bunch is Pink Truffle, one of my favorites from the line and a definite my-lip-color-but-better holy grail product.  I actually went to pick one up today, but I had already taken the photos.  You can find Pink Truffle here. Now for the review…

Positives

I am absolutely in love with this line. The texture, the smell, the color payoff…just perfect! First let me start with the smell.  It has a very subtle shea buttery type scent that you will hardly notice most of the time, and will probably like when you do pick up on it.  The texture is…well, buttery.  It’s smooth and moisturizing without feeling slippery the way these types of products often can.  It’s also got a really impressive color payoff that manages to give a gorgeous tint subtle enough to look naturally flattering, but bold enough to give good oompf!  Somehow the colors are so universally flattering they look like completely different shades on different skin tones.

Lollipop is a pretty bright blue-based pink that’s pretty sheer, but has an impressive build.  I use this for a bold lip paired with a simple cate eye and it makes me look like a barbie doll. So fun.  Love it!

Brown Sugar gives my lips the most beautiful bronze shimmer, and complements my skin tone in unspeakable ways! I almost exclusively use these in the summer months when I’m big on highlighter over blush.

Pink Truffle is a gorgeous my-lip-but-better that gives me a nice, warm flush.  I like it best in the spring and summer months, but again have used up so many tubes in the last year since I discovered these that it’s safe to say I’m a fan all year round.

Sugar Plum gives a beautiful plum flush that looks divine in the winter and fall, but also works in the summer when applied lightly. I have literally gone through almost 10 of these Sugar Plum bad boys in less than a year, and I de-potted the rest once I hit tube.  See below for proof.

Negatives

No strong negatives come to mind.  Brown Sugar has gotten the least amount of use, mostly due to the fact that it leaves behind an annoying glitter residue on the lip.  I have, however, gone through two tubes already which should tell you its not much of a deal breaker.

Verdict

These are not longwearing colors, nor are they advised as such.  They are a beautiful cross between tinted lip balm and a satin lipstick.  I highly recommend them to everyone, but especially to those lipgloss and lip balm mavens who are wary of or inexperienced with lipsticks and looking to jump in!  That’s definitely where I was last year when I first picked these up, and I must say they were my gateway drug.

If you wanna see how I de-pot these and other lipsticks, let me know! What are your holy grail lip products?

My foundation, highlight and contour routine!

highlight contour

Hey guys! So today I decided to film a foundation tutorial because I got a lot of requests for it.  I show my highlight and contour routine step by step, so it is nice and easy to follow! It took a while to get my foundation routine to this point, right how I like it.  With this routine, I can bank on a flawless finish that photographs beautifully but still looks like skin.  Your highlight and contour routine is really important, especially is you are going for a full face makeup look.  Highlight and contour, in addition to a solid foundation routine, really adds structure to your face and thereby frames your entire look!

I hope you enjoy my routine, and get some tips from it 🙂 If you have any questions at all, always feel free to comment.

Beyonce On The Run Tour: Celebrity Makeup Tutorial beyonce on the run tour

Hey guys! I had to get this LORAC Unzipped tutorial up because wedding season is at hand and I know a lot of wedding attendees will be snapping photos of their own.  Those of you who follow me already know LORAC is one of my favorite cosmetic lines.  I really love the LORAC Unzipped palette for soft, romantic looks.  It is similar to the Urban Decay palette, but better suited to my skin tone in my opinion.  Whether you are breaking it down on the dance floor, or pouncing for the bouquet, this look is sure to impress! I wish you all a happy wedding season, and hope you have the most fun 🙂 to fab photos, and beautiful memories! I hope you enjoy this LORAC Unzipped tutorial and even give it a spin yourselves!

Makeup Tips based on mistakes we have all made!

makeup tips for dark skin

Hey guys! So I was inspired to do a makeup mistakes to avoid video after going through some of my earlier uploads and seeing how far I have come! I know that I still have a bunch to learn, but it always feels good to be able to look back and see that you have learned so much and come so far already 🙂

A lot of the tips I cover are perfectly suited for darker skinned women, but I have heard from viewers and subscribers that this video is helpful for women of all skin tones.  Like I say in the video, the point of this video is to point out common mistakes and present alternative approaches.  These makeup tips are based on my personal experience, but I know that some of my do’s will be your donts, and some of my donts will be do’s for some of you just because of differences in skin tone or facial features!  Take these makeup tips, experiment, and make your own rules!  The important thing to remember with makeup is that practice makes perfect! Always remember to stick to what works for you and have fun, that’s all that matters.

Without further ado, here’s the list of products I used in this video!
