Keke Palmer Inspired Makeup Look!

keke palmer makeup

So you guys know that the tag line for this blog is “Beautiful. Intelligent. Inspired,” but I hope you also know that it’s not for nothing.  It’s because that’s what I believe each and everyone one of us women have it in us to be all of those three things, and have a responsibility to share that with the world.  Keke Palmer is one such woman! She does work with the Cool to Be Smart program, speaking to kids about the importance of learning.  I grew up with the value of education deeply ingrained in me, so this is a message I really identify with.  I also believe it to be a message that gets drowned out a lot of the time in the whirlwind of hollywood, reality television, and tabloid media culture—but I digress.  Keke Palmer is also the Anti-Bullying spokesperson for the YWCA, lending her voice and influence to an organization committed to empowering young woman and girls around the globe.  She is the exclusive ambassador for the Saving Our Daughters Oath Project which encourages girls to take an oath against bullying.  Needless to say, the decision to do an Inspired Look on her was a no brainer.

Here’s to inspired women!  And here’s the makeup:

Dark Purple Lipstick Makeup tutorial perfect for a sultry winter look!

Dark Purple Lipstick

Deep Purple Lipstick paired with an Icy purple eye for a sultry winter look!

Hey guys! So it feels like it’s been forever since I uploaded a post! I know it’s only been like a week, but I seriously missed it and it is so good to be back.   I am so excited to finally get this look up.  I saw a lot of punk/goth makeup on the runways during NYFW, but I decided to put off playing with these colors until the winter.  The winter is finally right around the corner!  It took me a while to find a way to wear this look that was fun and pretty, but still featured a strong lip without being overpowering.  I finally found a way! This look is inspired by Shaaanxo, one of my fave Youtubers, and when I saw it I knew I had to recreate it right away because of how pretty wearable the overall look is when these eyeshadows are paired with the lipstick.

I really loved playing with this look and I hope you will all try it out!  Here’s a list of everything I used:

All about why I chose the name for my beauty and lifestyle blog!

MVI_30914

A lot of people have asked me why I chose to start a blog and name it  “Maha Maven.”

maha maven definition

Maha means “woman with beautiful eyes,” and Maven  means “expert” or “connoisseur.”

I taught myself the tricks and techniques to enhance the things I loved about my appearance.  My eyes are my favorite physical traitso you will notice that most of my makeup tutorials revolve around eye makeup, drawing attention to my eyes and making them stand out.

People always stop me on the street to ask what foundation I am wearing, tell me they love my eye makeup, or to ask me what I use on my hair.  I have been asked to share makeup tips, recommend makeup looks, and help tweak application techniques to achieve a flawless makeup look.  This led me to put all the knowledge and expertise I gained through experience in one place: www.MahaMaven.com.

Through this blog, I am talking to women like me.

Women who have always been different, but refuse to fit the mold.  I am writing to women who, like me, look around their world and don’t see faces, bodies, or stories like theirs on the front pages of major magazines.  I created Maha Maven for women who open these same magazines, and wonder why they are missing from the centerfolds.

I am writing to women who challenge the assertion that they have to choose…intelligent or stylish, academic or creative.

I am writing to women who have been told that they can’t be both.  Who were made to believe that they cannot have it all.

This is for women who want to be taken seriously as students and professionals, but who also have a passion for creativity, beauty, and style.

I learned to resist the urge to try to fit in.  I learned to be and love myself, as I strived to be a person whom I could respect.

“Maha Maven” basically means “beautiful eyed expert,” and this embodies what I want this site to be about: empowering women to find their best traits, enhance them, and own them.  You are an expert at being you.  It’s about teaching women to be and look their best, and assert their best selves to the world. No apologies, and no questions asked.

I started this blog to share what I have learned.

Here are my tips, my advice, and my stories. Here is my journey.

Hooded Eye Makeup Tutorial just in time for the Holidays!

hooded eyelid makeup

This makeup tutorial hits pretty close to home for me guys!  When I first started experimenting with makeup, I struggled with nailing some of the gorgeously complex eyeshadow looks I saw in pictures and on celebrities.  It wasn’t until college when people started making fun of me for my “bedroom eyes” that the lightbulb went off for me…I have slightly hooded eyes!  This realization was a major game changer for me. The more I learned about hooded eyes, the easier my makeup application became and the happier I was with my results!

The name of this blog is Maha Maven afterall, so it’s about time I start honing in on those peepers.

What is a hooded eye?

A hooded eye is defined by an eyelid that becomes “hooded” by the skin on the brow bone, leaving less visible eyelid space when looking straight ahead.  Some people confuse a hooded eyelid with a monolid, but they really are not the same.  A monolid is one in which the eyelid is completely hidden, while with most hooded eyes the lid remains at least partially visible.

How can I tell if I have a hooded eye?

When looking down, hooded eyes become very noticeable: the crease is less defined, if it is defined at all, and the space between your brow and you upper lash line is either flat or slightly convex.

My eyes are “hooded.”  What now?

Consider yourself lucky! I know I do.  Bedroom eyes are beautiful, sultry, and intense.  It’s just all about learning how to tweak your makeup techniques to really play them up.  Notable celebrities with hooded eyes are Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, Nia Long, Taylor Swift and Camilla Belle.  All gorgeous women!

PRO Tips

Start your eye makeup by laying down your crease and transition colors to define the area, and also give yourself a visual barrier for your eyeshadow.

I like to keep the darkest colors on the outer corner of you eye, and focus my brightest colors on my inner and center eyelid.  This enhances the sultriness of my eyes without making them look smaller, while enabling me to maximize lid space for intricate eyeshadow looks.

Without further ado, here’s the makeup!
